Unlike basic simulators, the Ranger 5 combines a fixed-step rotary switch with a precision vernier adjustment system. The rotary switch provides nine calibrated output levels ranging from -0.5 mV/V to +4.5 mV/V in 0.5 mV/V increments, while the vernier control allows fine adjustments for more precise testing and calibration procedures.

The simulator features a smooth 10-turn vernier knob with a locking graduated dial and selectable Off, Fine, Medium, and Coarse ranges. This design allows technicians to perform detailed diagnostics, verify indicator performance, and accurately calibrate A/D converters for both offset and gain settings. The -0.5 mV/V setting is commonly used for offset calibration, while the +4.5 mV/V setting is used for gain calibration.

With a nominal impedance of 350 ohms, the Ranger 5 closely replicates the electrical characteristics of a standard load cell. Its high accuracy and nonlinearity of less than 0.02% provide dependable and repeatable test results for demanding industrial weighing applications.

The compact ABS plastic enclosure weighs less than one pound, making it ideal for both bench testing and field service work. Color-coded binding posts accept standard banana plugs or up to 14 AWG wire, enabling quick and convenient connections to indicators, transmitters, and control systems.
